Short Bytes: A paper has been published by Disney Research. They have used Quasistatic Cavity Resonance to develop a wireless charging tech that eliminates charging pads or stands from the picture. They say it is possible to transfer kilowatts of power to devices fitted with coil receivers. A demo room has been created as a proof-of-concept.
Seriously, Disney is definitely doing more than mickey mouse, animation movies, and the Pirates of the Caribbean. They are working hard to make wireless charging truly wireless.
We already have devices like smartphones, and smartwatches that can be charged without wires, but they need to be kept on some surface or plate. You might’ve read about the wireless charging technology called WiTricity on Fossbytes. Disney also has similar tech in the works.
A team at Disney Research has developed a wireless power delivery tech based on Quasistatic Cavity Resonance (QSCR). They’ve published their research paper titled Quasistatic Cavity Resonance for Ubiquitous Wireless Power Transfer.
According to the team, the tech fitted into a room, cabinet, or a warehouse can be used to generate quasistatic magnetic fields and “safely deliver kilowatts of power to mobile receivers contained nearly anywhere within.”
So, it’s like you just walk in a room, and your devices start charging automatically.
“An experimental demonstration shows that a 54 m3 QSCR room can deliver power to small coil receivers in nearly any position with 40% to 95% efficiency,” reads the research paper. Their analysis concludes a power of around 1900 watts can be transferred to a coil receiver.
