Intel 10th Gen Comet Lake S CPUs Could Go Up To 5.3GHz

Trying to build a gaming PC or a powerful rig for your daily computing needs is undoubtedly going to be more confusing in 2020. With the launch of AMD’s recent Zen 2 processors, which earned universal praise, you’re going to face a hard time choosing between Intel and AMD.

The Intel vs AMD competition is only going to get fiercer as both the companies are making CPUs that are more affordable and competent than ever. Along the similar lines, leaks for Intel 10th Gen Comet Lake desktop CPUs are here and contain details of a long list of SKUs.

First leaked by Informática Cero and then published by other websites, the next-gen Intel Comet Lake S chips will be released during CES 2020 or sometime later this year.

Intel Core i9-10900K: The New Flagship With Thermal Velocity Boost

As expected, the most high-end chip of the lineup is Core i9-10900K, with 20 threads and 10 cores. Thanks to the feature called Thermal Velocity Boost (TVB), the new chip will be able to touch the clock speeds of up to 5.3GHz; the usual clock speed of this chip is labeled from 3.7GHz to 5.2GHz in turbo boost.

Thermal Velocity Boost (TVB): TVB is a CPU technology developed by Intel that increases the performance of chips whenever the processor is operating below specified limits of temperature and power. The technology works on top of the existing Turbo Boost Technology.

It’s worth noting that TVB only works for two Intel 10th Gen Comet Lake S chips: 10900K and 10900. At the moment, it’s not clear when the TVB technology will kick-in. However, if Intel follows what it has done for its mobile chips, it should get enabled when the temperature drops below 50C on Coffee Lake H CPUs. For Comet Lake U, TVB is usually triggered below 70C and gives a boost of around 100MHz.

Apart from the two TVB-supported chips, the leak also mentions nine other chips, including Core i7-10700K and Core i7-10700. You can find the complete list of chips below —
