KDE Plasma 5.18 LTS Is Out For Testing: New Features In Beta

The beta version of the upcoming “Long Term Support” series of KDE Plasma desktop environment is finally out with new features and improvements.

Those who want to try out the upcoming KDE Plasma 5.18 LTS desktop environment and plan to migrate in the future, can now experience it and provide feedback before its final arrival using a beta version, which is now available for testing; the final version will be released next month.

KDE Plasma 5.18 LTS beta includes a set of changes ranging from more explicit notifications, furnished desktop layout to refined GTK integration, and much more.

KDE Plasma 5.18 is the next long-term support version releasing after two years to supersede the current Plasma 5.12 LTS, which is now reaching its end after the last maintenance update 5.12.9.

Plasma

  • Those who are addicted to using the emoticon in messaging can now access the emoji selector through keyboard shortcuts with Meta + . or application launcher.
  • You can now configure the keyboard shortcuts as well to toggle night color or DND feature.

Notification

  • The notification system is comprehensively revised in KDE Plasma 5.18 LTS, with the inclusion of new features.
  • Plasma can now show notification warning, and draggable icon in the “file downloaded” for swiftly dragging.

System Settings

  • Setting pages redesigned with the availability of a grid view.
  • The optional user feedback setting enabled by default.

GTK Support

  • Additional libraries and interfaces added to support the GTK application, which inherits Plasma’s settings by default for fonts, icons, cursors, and more.
